For Earth Day, Ford Motor Company uploaded a series of Instagram posts explaining the closed loop recycling system at its Dearborn Truck Plant where it builds the 2016 F-150. According to a recent press release, the automaker is able to recycle up to 20 million pounds of scrap aluminum every month. That is enough metal top build 30,000 F-150 bodies.
By making use of the recycled aluminum, Ford is able to avoid 95 percent of the greenhouse gas emissions associated with primary aluminum production. Aluminum also has the added benefit of being lighter than steel, allowing for a reduction in the F-150's lifetime emissions.
In addition to being the greenest F-150 ever, the 2016 F-150 is also the safest. The SuperCrew and SuperCab configurations are the only full-size pickups in the industry to earn a Top Safety Pick+ designation, the highest rating available from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. F-150 is also the lone full-size, light-duty pickup to earn a five-star overall score from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
