With summer just around the corner and spring in full swing, now is the time of year when many turn their minds toward the environment. And whether it's getting out with your company for a local "green up" or contributing to one of the many great charities and non-profits out there that are working to steward the environment, we can all do our part to help the planet. In fact, Ford announced today that it is making strides toward cleaning up the atmosphere by using carbon dioxide emissions to create usable plastics for its vehicles.
Carbon dioxide emissions are one of the number one causes of global warming. One of the best things we can do to prevent that is sequestering this carbon. To do so, Ford is turning captured carbon emissions, and distilling them down into a usable form, called a CO2-based polyol. This polyol can be made into plastics for injection molding into auto parts, from cup holders to pieces under the hood. It can also be turned into comfortable foam, perfect for use in Ford's seats.
Ford hopes to integrate these innovative recycled materials into its already extensive repertoire of sustainable practices, including using things like coconut fiber in its truck bed liners, and implementing a closed-loop aluminum recycling system into the Dearborn Truck plant that manufactures its 2016 Ford F-150. So, if you're looking for a vehicle that's as environmentally conscious as you are, look no further than Ford's 2016 lineup. Stop by Jim Schmidt Ford in Hicksville for a test drive today!
