Labor day weekend is coming up in just a few short hours, and if you're like many of us here at Jim Schmidt Ford, Inc. you've no doubt got some great plans for getting out on the road and enjoying this last unofficial week of summer with the family. Now, this one last hurrah of summer travel is a time honored tradition to capping off a summer on the road for many families around the Hicksville area, but it can also put a significant strain on your Ford vehicle if you're planning on traveling far from home or on rough roads. Luckily, there's one simple test you can do to ensure your vehicle is ready for the road ahead, and all it takes is one penny!
While most folks check to make sure their gas tank is filled, oil topped off, and tires properly inflated, there's on crucial area of care that often gets overlooked: tire tread. Having a healthy tread on your tires can help maintain traction in inclement or slippery road condition, and it can help you to brake effectively when you need to. So, to check your tires' tread, all you need to do is take a penny and insert it upside-down into the tread well of your tires as shown in the video above. If Abraham Lincoln's hair is covered, you're good to go! However, if you can see his whole head, it's time for a new set of wheels before you do any heavy travelling.
We strongly encourage all of our readers to do this test before heading out for your Labor Day weekend trips. If you find that your tires tread is looking a little worse for wear, don't worry! We're well-equipped to help you find the right tires for your Ford vehicles, and our talented technicians in the service center are always on hand to help you install them if need be. From all of us here at Jim Schmidt Ford, we wish you a safe and fun Labor Day weekend!
