It's not just a good idea to move over if you see an emergency vehicle, it's the law. All 50 states have move-over laws that apply not only to emergency vehicles but also to other situations. Here are some tips to follow.

You should move over anytime there is any sort of activity going on on the side of the road. That could be a disabled vehicle, road work or a police officer conducting a traffic stop. You should put on your blinker and move over at least one lane to avoid any of these situations. If you can't move over a lane, you should slow down and move as far to the opposite side of your lane as you can. In the case of emergency vehicles, you should pull off to the side of the road and wait until the vehicle has passed you.
